I confess right from the start that I love this cigar and have smoked quite a few over the past few months. I had only smoked a couple prior to the new packaging Camacho introduced in mid 2007, and liked those as well, but when I discovered the 11/18 size, the Diploma found a permanent home in my humidor.

The cigar is very well constructed. This size must be a little more difficult to roll, but I’ve yet to get one that did not have an outstanding draw. The cap is nicely applied, the band is beautiful and the Authentic Corojo wrapper is elegant. Simply no other word comes to mind. Clipping the cap on this cigar almost seems sinful.

Call me one happy sinner! Upon the initial lighting, this cigar instantly provides copious amounts of rich creamy smoke. The flavors start out nutty with toasted wheat and rich, well aged tobacco. It immediately becomes full bodied. My understanding is that the filler contains some “super ligeroâ€? (my term, not Camacho’s) – actually referred to as Quinto Corte, or fifth priming. These top most leaves get more exposure to the elements and are very full flavored. The 2nd third becomes more complex and this is where the all Corojo blend really excels. Leather, exotic spice and damp earthiness join the chorus. The room aroma is heady and intoxicating. In the final third, the cigar just becomes full on power, yet no harshness. Pepper creeps in, the savory grain flavors subside, and if you haven’t had a meal in a few hours you’ll notice the nicotine. A natural tobacco sweetness on the lips and in the smoke dance around all the other flavors. The finish is long and retains that blend of leathery spice.

Although some folks have reported burn issues, attributed to the Corojo variety of tobacco, that has not been my experience. Occasionally one side may start to burn a bit slower, but it usually corrects itself with some attention to rotating the cigar as it is smoked. I also find a relative humidity of 64-65% is much preferred. The cigar holds a respectable ash and is not a messy companion. Smoking time is a leisurely 75-80 minutes and a highly recommended way to spend some “me� time in one’s favorite relaxing hideaway. This cigar compares without qualification to many other cigars made in any other part of the world. Yes, you know what I mean! In many ways, it also stands well above most.
