Camacho Corojo reviewed @ CigarJack.net

When I think of Camacho the Camacho Corojo is the cigar that immediately comes to mind. I first tried this cigar a few years ago and I remember not really enjoying it. I wasn’t used to smoking cigars this strong and having this cigar after a few too many drinks wasn’t one of my best ideas. This is how one of my rules about cigar smoking came about: Do not smoke a cigar you are unfamiliar with while intoxicated. I won’t go into details, but let’s just say I haven’t quite lived it down yet.
Anyway over time my tastes have changed, and I’m also more tolerant and patient with strong cigars. I finally worked up the courage to try one of these again at a local event. This wasn’t the size I originally wanted to review, but they were currently out of stock at my local shop. I’ll be hitting up one other size and the maduro versions of these cigars later on.
Construction: Rustic best describes the Camacho Corojo. The wrapper is a rougher looking dark brown wrapper, if the maduro wasn’t labeled they would be tough to tell apart. There is some definite tooth to the wrapper and some obvious veins running through it. The cigar is on the softer side, but the draw was right on, just a touch resistant.
Burn: Overall I had pretty good with the burn on these. I did have to touch it up once or twice, but it never got out of hand. The ash tends to be a bit loose on these so be sure and keep an eye on it.
Flavor: The Camacho Corojo starts off with a good bit of spice and a definite cedar flavor, lasting pretty much through the first third of the smoke. After a while the spice mellowed out some and I started to pick out a bit of leather. The final third really turned up the spice, a mix of black pepper and cedar. Overall a fairly consistent flavor, but with enough variance to keep it interesting.
Verdict: I wouldn’t recommend this cigar to a novice smoker, I think they may find the cigar too much for them. But if you like a fuller bodied smoke this is one to try. These for around $5 or less, definitely a must try if you like full bodied smokes.
